Routine Dental Cleanings (Prophylaxis Cleaning)
It is important to visit your dentist at least twice a year for thorough cleanings. These visits remove the accumulating plaques and calculus (hard plaques) off of your teeth that routine brushing and flossing can’t take off. Think of the calcium deposits that form around your shower head or sink. It’s sort of like that, but on your teeth. A tooth brush won’t remove those accumulations, it takes a professional scrubbing by your hygienist. Plus coming in bi-annualy allows you to catch up with both your hygienist and dentist to make sure nothing else major isn’t developing.
Dental Restorations
When you need a dental restoration, it’s likely that there was a cavity or an older filling has started to break down. At the Rivers Bend Dental Office, we only use composite white fillings. No need to worry about off-colored silver fillings, we don’t use them. If you have a cavity, your dentist will remove all the decayed tooth material back down to solid tooth structure. The area is filled back in with white composite resin material. Once sealed with the composite filling, with good maintenance and a balanced diet, the filling material should give you years of service and beyond.

Sealants
Sealants are a great way to prevent and avoid cavities with your child. The sealant is a thin resin that flows into the nooks and cracks that naturally form on the tops of our molar back teeth. While there are some folks who don’t feel this added step is unnecessary, the preventative benefits with sealants can result in saving a great deal of money. An ounce of prevention can be worth its weight in cure.

Oral Surgery
If you find yourself needing to remove a tooth (or teeth), Rivers Bend Family Dental has you covered. Our fully trained Doctor Johnson and staff perform the procedure in the most compassionate and caring manner. Removing a tooth can be an anxious time, ask about how we use nitrous and topical anesthetics to make sure your procedure goes as smooth as possible.
Root Canal Therapy
When a tooth is aching, more than likely the nerve inside the tooth is inflamed. Ouch! If there is enough tooth structure to save, a root canal (for adult teeth) or pulpotomy (for baby teeth) may be necessary. With the advancement of better anesthetics, this procedure can be done with little to no discomfort. The infected nerve inside the tooth is cleaned out with instruments similar to a pipe cleaner. Rivers Bend has invested in the latest root canal handpiece technology that allows for faster and more efficient root canal procedures called WaveOne.
